In 1829 King Ludwig I of Bavaria acquired the altarpiece „The Vision of Saint Bernard“ for the Alte Pinakothek. Since that time the painting by Perugino, to be among the main works of the artist, is an important part of that famous collection. At this time it takes centre stage at an exhibition, which wants „to rid Perugino of the shadow cast by his pupil Raphael“. Works of the 1490s – religious works, portraits and mythological creations – are shown to convince thereof.
