Over the centuries death animals remain in art as a common motif of still lifes. The relationship between animals and humans changed in this period, lastly with the animal rights movement in the 20th century, and the function and symbolism of the animal still lifes have changed too. An exhibition in Karlsruhe is dealing with this alteration from the renaissance to modern art and is presenting amongst others pictures by Dürer, Rubens, Metsu, Weenix, Chardin, Goya, Manet, Sisley, Ensor and Beckmann.
