Artistic Examination with the Self

Starting material for their own work is often the artist’s own body, his own role, biography, identity, attitude, humor or melancholy. They highlight themselves, ask questions about their role, look for and reflect their personality.
In four categories the exhibition illuminates the self-presentation in the artist’s own work, beyond classic self-portraits. The more than 100 works of the last fifty years – mainly from the Pinault collection – are a media crossover of the different artistic genres such as painting, photography, sculpture and video.
