Image series 32 / 2021: Cacti in Art
Fashionable Plant of the 1920s

As a flowering exotic with a prickly nature, the manifestation of barrenness, the cactus becomes a particularly popular motif in art in the 1920s. Influenced by the cactus fashion and the bourgeois cactus cultivation of the time, many precisely constructed pictorial structures are created in classical genres such as landscape, portrait and still life, in the style of New Objectivity.
Not only cacti, but all plants have always been a great source of inspiration in art. In the exhibition, works from over 500 years of art history show the change in representations over time.
