New Views of Architecture

In, in front of, next to, behind or on public buildings or private structures, works of art show artists’ confrontations with the time, place, space and function of architecture. The art-and-building projects encourage new perspectives. For more than 70 years, the federal and state governments have financed these projects in new construction and renovation projects through percentage shares of the construction costs or through fixed budgets. Others have also adopted this principle as a voluntary commitment.
In the exhibition, photos, videos and texts on 30 exemplarily selected objects from NRW illustrate the diversity of this special form of art, show the added value that art can generate for construction, and point to limitations and challenges.
