She corresponded to the image of the modern, emancipated woman in the twenties and thirties and she undertook various journeys to the most diverse countries. In June 1939, for example, the Swiss writer, journalist and photographer Annemarie Schwarzenbach travelled to Afghanistan by car and photographed the people and the landscape. The black-and-white photographs are carefully composed images and show a keen interest in the fate of the people and in politics.
The exhibition aims to open our eyes to a female view of the world and its far reaches from the late 1930s to the present day. It presents positions of international women photographers with their specific approaches to the supposedly longing topic of travel.
