New worlds of imagination, permanent border crossings and layers of colour form the cornerstones of the oeuvre of the German artist Katharina Grosse. She loves playing with paradoxes and sees herself as a mediator between the individual colours in the design of colour relationships. Her large-format paintings undermine conventional relationships between foreground and background, surface and substrate, image area and frame. Her small to medium-sized oil paintings draw attention to the unruly interplay of colour passages.
The exhibition shows around 40 mostly large-format paintings in two thematic fields, from the canvases she created in her studio in the late 1980s to her most recent works.
