In 1920s Berlin, German photographer Marta Astfalck-Vietz staged her own body in front of the camera, intertwining image planes and creating a long-forgotten body of work consisting of portrait, nude and dance photographs as well as conceptual series. In idiosyncratic stagings, she slipped into different roles, questioned female role models and made critical references to the socio-political upheavals of the time.
With around 130 works by Marta Astfalck-Vietz, the exhibition pays tribute to her diverse and self-assured oeuvre.
