prometheus is involved in the funded NFDI consortium NFDI4Culture
The “Joint Science Conference” (GWK) has decided on funding in the field of National Research Data Infrastructure on the basis of a recommendation by the “German Research Foundation” (DFG). Among the nine approved consortia is NFDI4Culture.
The aim of the consortium is to establish a demand-oriented infrastructure for research data on tangible and intangible cultural assets in the NFDI. The research landscape targeted by NFDI4Culture includes university institutes, art schools, academies, galleries, libraries, archives, museums and individual researchers. The consortium addresses the needs of a wide range of disciplines from architecture, art, music, theatre, dance, film and media studies. The aim is the interdisciplinary findability and accessibility as well as the long-term preservation and continuous maintenance of digital data, which includes 2D digitized versions of paintings, photographs and drawings as well as digital 3D models of culturally and historically important buildings, monuments or audiovisual data of music, film and stage performances.
The consortium NFDI4Culture consists of a geographically, thematically and institutionally balanced network of 9 co-applicants, 11 associations and 52 partners. The supporting institutions include four universities (Heidelberg, Cologne, Marburg, Paderborn), three infrastructure institutions (FIZ Karlsruhe, TIB Hannover, SLUB Dresden), the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz, which is the lead institution in the consortium. The University of Cologne, together with the prometheus-Bildarchiv Co-Applicant-Institution with Lisa Dieckmann as co-speaker and together with the University of Paderborn, is responsible for the section Tools and Services. Here, the specific requirements of the NFDI4Culture consortium with regard to the development, consolidation and certification of sustainable, interoperable research tools and data services based on the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Re-usable) are taken into account.
