Image series 01 / 2015: Asgar Jorn
Quirky, Funny Creatures
Extensive and famous is the work of Asger Jorn, the major Danish artist of the 20th century. He played a prominent role in the development of the European avant-garde of the postwar period. Gradually, he invents a captivating painting which is sometimes conciliatory, sometimes critical, but always fresh, colorful and experimental. His recurring motifs include bizarre creatures from a fantastic wildlife.
In his 100th year of birth, the exhibition presents his previously little-known collages from 1956 and his décollages of 1964, 1968, 1969 and 1971. For the first time there are approximately sixty works from five different countries in one exhibition. His works are distinctive, vivid clashes outside of genre and material boundaries, showing its typical profound joke in picture.
