Image series 06 / 2023: Nan Goldin
Black and white in the 1970s
In the early 1970s, the US photographer Nan Goldin royally pictures people from the Boston transvestite and cross-dresser scene in black and white, people she admires for their special self-confidence. Since that time, the camera has been a means for her to get in touch with people. To this day, she only takes pictures of people she feels close to. With her subjectivity, she has revolutionised documentary photography.
On the occasion of the awarding of the Käthe Kollwitz Prize 2022 to Nan Goldin, the exhibition of the artist’s photographs spans five decades.
