Between 2003 and 2007, American photographer Gregory Crewdson worked on the series ‘Beneath the Roses’. He staged the 49 surreal photographs with a huge team of staff and immense effort against the backdrop of American suburbs. His visual language is influenced by the visual language of Hollywood cinema and is often melancholically idyllic, in which people lose themselves, or disturbing, like crime scenes of mysterious
crimes.
Excerpts from Gregory Crewdson’s important photo series from the 1980s to the
present day are presented in the retrospective. Over 70 works provide insight into his fascinating visual world with eerie and timeless motifs.
