Searches and Unexpected Findings

Because of the integration of heterogeneous photo inventory and databases, as is the case with prometheus, there is much effort placed into achieving optimal search results. Therefore, we index, which means we add the metadata of the data records from the image database into the image archive. For example, at prometheus, we have indexed an English dictionary to provide an English-language search and have also added the English translation to every German word. The reliability of this feature is very high, but sometimes there arise some surprising results with the images displayed.

Examples of how this feature works are as follows:
• If you search for the German word “sehen“, it will also search for the English translation “(to) see”. As a result, one will also find entries to the German word “(der) See”, which means lake.
• If one searches for the German word “schlecht”, the feature will also search for the English translation “bad”. As a result, one will find entries to the German word “(das) Bad”, which means bathroom.
• If one searches for the German word „mutig“, it will also search for the English translation “brave”. As a result, one also finds entries to the German word “(die) Brave”, which means “the nice one”.
• If one searches for the German word, “Geschenk“, the feature will also search for the English translation “gift”. As a result, one finds entries to the German word “(das) Gift”, which means poison.
• If one searches for the German word “geduldig“, the feature will also search for the English translation “patient”. As a result, one finds entries for the German word “(der) Patient”, which means “sick person”.

So if you ever want to search for one of these terms…
