Still lifes, religious paintings, nudes and portraits comprise the work of the German-Swiss painter Ottilie W. Roederstein, one of the most successful artists of her time in the German-speaking world. Portrait painting in particular was a lucrative source of income for the artist. She dealt elegantly with perspective and anatomy, light and shadow, moods and tensions. Her multifaceted oeuvre reflects different modernist tendencies, stylistically diverse and difficult to classify. She liked to try out new styles and techniques.
With 75 paintings and drawings, the comprehensive retrospective provides an overview of the artistic development of the stylistically versatile painter Ottilie W. Roederstein.
