Image series 50 / 2019: Van Gogh’s Still Lifes

For the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, still lifes were the appropriate medium for his ongoing experimentation with the expressiveness of colour. His artistic development towards an ever freer, more intensive use of colour can be traced through his still lifes. He was able to experiment with painterly means and possibilities, in addition to playing with colours, he was able to capture space with light and shadow.
On the basis of 27 paintings, the exhibition analyses the decisive stages in Vincent van Gogh’s life and work.
