Every five years, the documenta takes place for 100 days. The international exhibition in Kassel is regarded as a place where new standards are set for the art world every five years, which always also imply political and social dimensions. This year, around 1,400 artists and collectives will show their world, their values and discuss the concerns of the global South at the 32 locations in Kassel, curated by Ruangrupa and the artists’ collective Taring Padi from Indonesia.
Marked by accusations of anti-Semitism, documenta fifteen ultimately looks back on a series of withdrawals, accusations, apologies and a lot of negative coverage.
