The first forms of glass – made of sand, soda, lime – were created as early as 3,500 BC in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, as archaeological finds show. Glass combines properties such as being fragile and yet resistant, it is tasteless and gas-tight, can be deformed at very high temperatures and remains dimensionally stable at cool temperatures. Objects made of glass come in a variety of shapes and colours.
In the special exhibition, around 100 exhibits from antiquity to the present day show the diverse design possibilities of glass from antiquity to the present day.
