Image series 27 / 2023: Ahrenshoop at the Baltic Sea

For generations, artists from Halle have regularly stayed in Ahrenshoop at the Baltic Sea to work there. It began in 1892 when the Oldenburg painter Paul Müller-Kaempff settled in the natural idyll and was followed by schoolchildren and colleagues. Ahrenshoop became a place for artists.
Hundreds of works from the long-distance artistic relationship between Ahrenshoop and Halle artists can be seen in the two-part exhibition. It begins with the presentation of the artists’ colony in Ahrenshoop around 1900 and Ahrenshoop as a domicile for modern artists up to the 1930s and 1940s. Then follows the development after the Second World War up to the present.
