Almost 35 years ago, an animated satire about Homer and Marge as well as Bart, Lisa and Maggie in the fictional small town of Springfield premiered on US prime-time television. ‘The Simpsons’ became a worldwide success. In an ironic and parodistic way, the series often deals with aspects of everyday American life and family life, including occasional allusions and sideswipes at the visual arts. These range from relatively easily recognisable quotations and conceptual pigeonholes to very complex references to little-known concepts.
To mark the 70th birthday of Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, the anniversary exhibition features many original drawings and transparencies, storyboards, comic books, record covers, action figures and art inspired by The Simpsons.
