Encounters with Infinity
Since the 1960s, Yayoi Kusama has been one of the best-known contemporary artists. Her multifaceted oeuvre, which includes performance, happenings, painting, fashion and activism, spans seven decades with two consistent principles in the form of shapes, colours and figures: the layering of what could be and the exploration of what can be sensually experienced. Most of the works are messengers of infinity, of a vastness that engulfs the individual.
Yayoi Kusama’s irrepressible creative urge, from early pastels to brightly coloured acrylic paintings of recent times, is shown in all its breadth in the retrospective and illustrates the relevance of her activity in today’s art world.
