The focus is on " The Entry of Emperor Charles V into Antwerp" by Hans Makart. Sixty other 19th-century paintings and sculptures, divided into thematic sections such as “History Up Close”, “Emotional Worlds of Mourning, Pain and Farewell” or “Fascination of Strangers”, tell of the complexity, contradictory nature and seductive power of the art from those days in the exhibition. With provocative and disputatious thought-provoking impulses, there are suggestions to look closely at and question the exhibited works.
