A Tradition Going Back Thousands of Years

Alcohol is part of our world. It has been consumed for around 10,000 years and is a central component of many occasions, including Christmas and New Year’s Eve. It has been important in religion and cult since the Stone Age, also for representation and above all in social interaction for one’s own identity and group membership, regardless of whether we drink it ourselves or not.
The special exhibition focuses on the cultural history of beer and wine. It sheds light on drinking habits and drinking games but is also devoted to the abuse of alcohol.
