The Search for Authenticity
When the Dutch photographer Rineke Dijkstra creates composed portraits, she attempts to capture the complexity of the human being. In her large-format ‘Beach Portraits’ from 1992, she shows young people on various beaches around the world, who she also sees as symbols of an era or an attitude towards life. She attempts to capture this universality in the photographs, as well as the specific aspects of each individual. The search for authenticity is the great leitmotif in her work.
A total of 27 works by Rineke Dijkstra, including 23 pictures from the ‘Beach Portraits’ series, are on display in the exhibition.
