A new perspective on Egypt

The regency of the Pharaoh Echnaton (1351 – 1334 BC) was connected with radical changes. He acceded to the throne as Amenophis IV., established the first monotheistic religion, in which the solar disc “Aton” was adored, and called himself “Echnaton” – “beam of Aton”. New temples gave space to worship Aton under the open sky.
There are archaeological remains of the Amarna-culture, for example the ruins of the ancient Egyptian capital city Achet-Aton. 129 exhibits are now shown in Hamm. The exhibition is an enhancement of the Amarne-exhibition in Cologne in 2008.
