Artistic models of European art influenced US American artists over a long period of time. Early landscape depictions and views of cities show an intensive examination of these art styles, later, however, rather the search for an American identity and the development of their own pictorial languages.
With around 130 works of art from the period between 1650 and 1950 the exhibition shows much more. The view of the diversity of American approaches begins with works from the colonial era, leads to depictions of American Realism, and ends with examples of Abstract Expressionism.
