In the works of the artist Marc Chagall there is no separation between the religious and the secular. He transformed reality into a romantic dream world in a splendidly colourful way.
With around 120 of his paintings, drawings and graphics, the exhibition immerses itself in Marc Chagall’s fantastic dream world and traces his sources of inspiration in the real world.

An excerpt from the church windows of St. Stephen in Mainz created by Marc Chagall from 1976 to 1985 is the motif of the special stamp “Weihnachten 2018”. Mary with the Child Jesus, in whose background an angel can be seen, is taken from the right southeast choir window.
