Through an open perspective on a selection of different objects from different periods, the exhibition scrutinises pictorial themes beyond the norm as well as the potential of conventional motifs in relation to queer interpretations. Current themes and the ambiguity of the visual language are not in opposition to each other, but in dialogue.
How do we understand mythological narratives from antiquity relating to bisexuality today? What alternative lifestyles, understandings of the body and sexualities emerge in the works of the Old Masters that we would summarise today in the term queer?
