The French painter Suzanne Valadon overcame all the barriers of her time, in the second half of the 19th and first half of the 20th century. She managed the break with the role assignment of the woman as a muse and her emancipation as an artist. Today she is considered an important representative of French modernism, and her extensive work is considered extremely radical, with a characteristically compact colour scheme and strong colour contrasts, clear compositions and her own view of female and male nudes.
Around 200 of Suzanne Valadon’s works illuminate her life in Paris, her view of people, her relationships and influences, as well as her legacy.
