Image series 27 / 2026: Elmgreen & Dragset
Artist Duo since 1995
The Scandinavian artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset, who have been working together as a duo in Berlin since the mid-1990s, are in demand worldwide. Their works challenge familiar spatial structures and various patterns of behaviour and perception. In large-scale installations, they frequently use life-size, naturalistic depictions of people in everyday clothing, which they stage in unsettling situations with subtle humour.
For their current project, Elmgreen & Dragset were invited to engage in a dialogue with the collection at the Städel Museum. Their works are distributed throughout the museum, where they play with perceptions and expectations, reference existing situations, subvert them and humorously take them a step further through their own artworks.
